This picture was taken from approximately the same spot showing the current view across Pit 2 of Battery Ash. Whidbey Island and part of Fort Casey are visible across the Strait. This shot looks across one of the restored view sheds that Coast Artillery Museeum volunteers opened up to show what it would have looked like from the late 1890s until the early 1960s when the area was more or less abandoned and trees started being allowed to grow.
